Biopics are all the craze right now. In this year alone, Narendra Modi has received two biopics already and is about to get another one which is being produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. And I don’t have a problem with the number of biopics being produced. I have a problem when they are made with any passion or intention to truly bring the person’s story to life. Thankfully, it looks like that isn’t going to be the case in the upcoming Saina Nehwal biopic because it has Manav Kaul in it.

The first time I came across the immense acting prowess of Manav Kaul was in Kai Po Che! His commanding presence as Bittoo Joshi shook me to my core. Since then he has always impressed me in movies like Wazir, City Lights, Badla and web series like Ghoul, A.I.SHA and The Verdict – State Vs Nanavati. And going by the first look that he has shared via his social media handles as Saina Nehwal’s coach, I am certain that he’s going to knock the breath out of me once again with his performance. FYI, it’s not based on Pullela Gopichand and is instead inspired by all of Saina’s coaches.

According to Mumbai Mirror, Kaul knew nothing about badminton when he joined the cast. He said,

“I used to play badminton as a child and thought I play well. But when I met Eshan (Naqvi), my trainer for the film, I realised I knew nothing about the sport and had to unlearn what I did and start from the scratch. My stamina was low, I’d fall down after just 10 minutes of playing, feeling like my heart would jump out of my body. But, Eshan was very patient and I learnt a lot from him.”

Now, Manav is a national level-swimmer who has secured the third place during the All India University Swimming Championships. But it is the training for the preparation of the movie that made him fit enough to essay the role of Saina Nehwal’s coach. And, going by the reactions, fans are impressed by how he’s looking right now.

Manav hasn’t met Saina yet but is very impressed of her feats and the actress portraying her, Parineeti Chopra. However, as of now, Chopra is recuperating from a back injury. Hopefully, she recovers soon so that Kaul and Chopra can hit the nets as soon as possible and give us a banging biopic.
