Nokia has had a roller coaster of a decade with smartphones. They were the global market leaders at one point in time before succumbing to the competition from Android devices. However, they made a comeback with Android One offerings. Their second chance at life saw them focus on budget smartphones in markets such as India, and even do well to an extent.

To keep that trend rolling, the Nokia is gearing up launch a new smartphone in India on June 6, called the Nokia 9 PureView. This phone was originally launched at MWC in February with a unique five-camera setup. Ever since their return, HMD Global has launched very few flagships such as the the Nokia 8 Sirocco.

Nokia 9 PureView Specifications

The Nokia 9 PureView has a 5.99-inch 18:9 P-OLED display covered by Gorilla Glass 5, while the back is covered by glass and has the famous five-camera setup. It’s a pretty conservative design as per 2019 standards.

The Nokia 9 PureView is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. The SD845 was also the flagship chipset by Qualcomm for 2018, so it is already a generation behind 2019 flagships. There is only one storage variant available at 128GB. There’s a 3320 mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 powering the entire package.

The key feature of this phone and the reason why it earns the ‘PureView’ tag is the camera setup on the back. Unlike other smartphones that make use of multiple sensors to cover different focal lengths or different colour spaces, the Nokia 9 PureView has five cameras of the same focal length and specifications, just that two of them are monochrome (black and white) and the rest are RGB. They work together to create an image with a lot more detail, depth information and dynamic range. It is meant to provide a lot more leg space for editing.

Nokia 9 PureView Price in India

Globally, the Nokia 9 is priced at $699 which converts to about INR 48,999. Considering that HMD Global has a manufacturing facility in India, the price should be similar here or probably cheaper in the country. At that price, it will compete with the likes of the OnePlus 7 Pro, the Black Shark 2 and even the Pixel 3a XL.
