Stranger Things Mobile Game To Launch In 2020
Netflix announced a mobile game based on Stranger Things yesterday at the E3. It will be a location-based puzzle RPG. The Stranger Things universe will be reimagined in the style of an 80’s Saturday morning cartoon.
The game will adopt location-based mechanics and integration from Google Maps to provide gameplay mechanics similar to Pokémon Go. Players will be able to explore the Upside Down, which will be hidden around them. It will also allow players to team up with fellow fans and fight back emerging evils.
The CEO of Next Games, Teemu Huuhtanen said, “We are huge fans of Stranger Things and thrilled to work together with Netflix to bring our shared vision of Stranger Things into life in a mobile game format. Our core focus will be to deliver on Stranger Things’ rich and intense themes like friendship and supernatural adventure and translate these into snack-sized entertainment on your mobile device. Combined with Netflix’s second-to none ability to reach audiences across the globe, we will deploy all of our accumulated creative and technological expertise to create a game for the fans of the series all around the world.”
Next Games is one of the prime leaders in licensed location-based games. Using AR and Google Maps, they also developed The Walking Dead: Our World, mobile. The Stranger Things mobile game will be completely different from the previous Stranger Things games developed by Telltale Games, which later got cancelled due to the collapse of the company.
The third season of Stranger Things will be out on Netflix on 4th July and with the game set to release in 2020, it will be free to play on Android and iOS devices.
