Even if you’re not the type of person who needs a smartwatch for phone or message notifications on their wrist, it seems that the Apple Watch’s ability to detect abnormal heart rates might be a good enough reason to get your hands on one, as evidenced by a story in which the Apple Watch might have saved yet another life.

According to the report, the owner of the Apple Watch – Rosemary Stiles, wanted an Apple Watch as a way to keep in touch with her kids on the go. However, it seems that the device did more than just as it might have saved her life as the Apple Watch actually detected that Stiles might have experiencing Afib while in her sleep.

According to Stiles, “I just fell asleep in my chair and my watch vibrated. When I looked at it, it said that it had detected A-Fib and I needed to see a doctor.” The story does not mention if Stiles got herself checked out (hopefully she did) and if there was any follow-up and she if might have gotten any treatment, but had she not been alerted, it could have ended very differently.

This is not the first time that the Apple Watch has notified wearers about potential heart-related problems, and we doubt that it will be the last. Apple has also been rumored to be working on other health-related features for the device, one of which is a highly-anticipated non-invasive method of glucose level detection.
