Crusader Blade Mod Mashes Up CK3 and Bannerlord
Crossing Over
The Crusader Blade mod has a rather interesting proposition for you: what if you could play out Crusader Kings 3 battles in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord?
This new mod from a man named George (via Reddit) does exactly that. Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord and Crusader Kings 3 will certainly have plenty of mods as time goes on and both franchises have a fair amount of mods as it is. What makes Crusader Blade interesting, however, is that it uses both games at the same time.
How Does the Crusader Blade Mod Work?
The Crusader Blade mod works on a very simple premise: calculate the troops used for a battle in Crusader Kings 3 and then transfer those numbers over to Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord. From there, the battle plays out in Bannerlord’s engine, right there on your screen. The results of that battle are subsequently sent back to Crusader Kings 3 and your game carries on as normal.
This mod is certainly ambitious, but this isn’t just theory — George has gotten a first test of the mod working after only a month. It won’t require an insane amount of computing power, either; George just so happens to be traveling and ran the first test of the mod on a laptop with integrated graphics, a Ryzen 5 3500U, and only 8 GB of RAM.
There’s still a lot to do, though! There are a lot of units in Crusader Kings 3 that don’t have an equivalent in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, so George will have to make them. There will probably have to be a fair amount of troubleshooting and experimentation to make this mod work, too.
Where to Download the Crusader Blade Mod for Crusader Kings 3 and Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord
Unfortunately, you can’t download the Crusader Blade mod just yet — it’s still in development! George’s public posts show that he’s already made a good amount of progress thus far, however, and it probably won’t be too long before a public version is available for testing.
For now, you can support the Crusader Blade mod on Patreon and get early access to the first releases for this mod when it actually releases. Of course, you’ll also need to own a copy of Crusader Kings 3 and Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord to play it, so you might want to pick up both of those games if you haven’t bought them already.
