Sci-fi RPG fans are about to have something new on their radar — get ready for Earth From Another Sun, an ambitious “open galaxy” RPG coming to PC and next-gen consoles next year.

On its face, Earth From Another Sun has planetary scenery that wouldn’t be out of place in games like the gun-filled game Borderlands 3 or the charming sci-fi send-up The Outer Worlds, the latter of which got a sequel announcement earlier this year. However, there’s much more to this game than meets the eye; check out the Earth From Another Sun Announcement Trailer to see it in motion:

The game’s developer Multiverse promises an experience that is “a unique blend of [Mount & Blade], looter shooter[,] and randomly generated worlds.” While you can certainly get into your fair share of trouble in first-person combat, there will also be larger battles featuring up to 1,000 units. There will be vehicles, too, so there’s a dash of Battlefield in this game as well.

Filling up a galaxy with content can be a challenge, though. Multiverse has committed to providing content updates every two weeks “for years to come” and constant communication with the community. That community will be an asset, too, as there will be content creation tools for making your own in-game events and stories. Additional content creation tools will arrive as development progresses. You won’t have to play this game alone, either — co-op multiplayer will be available, too.

When is the Earth From Another Sun Release Date?

The Earth From Another Sun release date will be sometime in 2022 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S; a more specific release date has not yet been announced, but it’s likely to be within the next six months or so.

How do we know it will launch in roughly six months? Well, a press release from the developers notes that a demo will be made available when the Fall Steam Next Fest launches on October 1, 2021; Valve has instituted rules requiring any games featuring in Steam Next Fest events must launch within six months.

Still, a delay is always a possibility — nothing is certain until a firm release date is announced by the developers. For now, you can add Earth From Another Sun to your wishlist on Steam and you can learn more about this upcoming game on its official website.
