This morning, Nintendo released a new trailer for Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, which gave fans a whole lot of content to obsess over while waiting for their November 15 release date.
Top Hat Weezing
The first major update came in the form of Galarian Weezing, a UK-inspired variant of the classic poison type Pokemon that has two smoke stacks atop its heads that are meant to look like massive top hats. Fans quickly compared Galarian Weezing to Texas business tycoon-inspired Doug Dimmadome from The Fairly OddParents, and to, uh… certain illicit paraphernalia. And yes, its ability is Levitate. Next up in the trailer was Zigzagoon’s updated evolutionary line. This Gen 3 normal type has turned into a dark/normal type Pokemon with its Galarian form. It’s a decidedly cooler design, and it’s gotten an additional evolution in the form of Obstagoon which, without a doubt, looks like Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss. Don’t believe me? Just look at the comparisons below.
The third and final new Pokemon shown off in the trailer was the form-changing Morpeko, who is an electric/dark type in its “Full Belly Mode” and changes to a pure dark type in “Hangry Mode.” Which, frankly, feels like a personal attack on all of our hungry mood swings, but it’s cute so we’ll let it slide. On-the-Nose Team Yell
Lastly, there’s the antagonist group, Team Yell, which is a rowdy, over-excited fanbase devoted to the character Marnie. Fans were quick to make comparisons between these over zealous followers, and Pokemon fans upset at GameFreak for not including the national Pokedex in Sword and Shield.
Many of the details from this morning’s trailer further confirmed a now three-month-old Sword and Shield leak.
