Biomutant EA Desktop App Version is Having Problems on Launch Day
The Biomutant EA Desktop App version is having problems on launch day, and the problem seesm to be largely centered on players who thought they might have purchased the game at an amazing discount.
Biomutant is the result of a years-long project from Experiment 101, placing players in a post-apocalyptic open world where they play as an adorable critter with deadly martial arts abilities. It’s been a hotly-anticipated game for some time and it’s finally launched, but launch day isn’t going as well for everyone out there — some players who took advantage of an apparent pricing error are finding that they can’t download the game at all.
Biomutant Had a Crazy Discount on the EA Desktop App
The Biomutant EA Desktop App version was available for a short time at the insanely low price of $2.99 as reported by gaming industry tweeter @Wario64. According to him, attempting to purchase the game would bring up the “Mercenary Class” DLC in the cart, but the game page eventually confirmed that he pre-ordered the standard edition.
Despite what the storefront said, the receipts were something different — Kei Lind on Twitter noted that the e-mail receipt only mentioned the Mercenary Class DLC and not the base game, contradicting what the EA Desktop App said about the standard edition being pre-purchased. EA fixed the pricing error not too long after that; come launch day, a number of players are now having problems downloading the game on the EA Desktop App.
The Biomutant EA Desktop App Version Won’t Install for Some Owners
Launch day for the Biomutant EA Desktop App version hasn’t been going too well for some people following the pricing debacle. In one case, a customer shared that EA refunded the purchase entirely.
Let’s start with the error — @Wario64 reports the following error when attempting to install the game. (Keep in mind that he says he bought it at the erroneous price of $2.99 on the EA Desktop App.)
“Unable to install There was a slight hiccup and we couldn’t finish installing BIOMUTANT.” “Restart your PC and try again.”
He subsequently contacted EA and received the following response from customer support on the matter:
“I would like to inform you that there is some technical difficulties going on and there are many players facing this issue. Good thing is that this has been brought into the notice of the concerning team and they are diligently working to fix it as soon as possible.”
“You just need to wait for some time, this is a known issue to us and our concerned team is working hard to fix the issue.”
On the flip side of the coin, @isquishy37 on Twitter also apparently purchased the Biomutant EA Desktop App version for $2.99 but got an entirely different answer from customer support:
“Thanks for waiting. I have got a confirmation from the game team that when players tried to purchase the Biomutant standard edition via EA desktop they received the Biomutant – Mercenary Class DLC instead.”
“The base game was not included with this DLC. This issue is now resolved, this was an issue caused by an administrative error that was quickly corrected.”
“I am going to issue a full refund for the DLC and then can you purchase the base game from the website […]”
So what happened here? From what I can tell, EA accidentally listed the Mercenary Class DLC as the full game on the EA Desktop App and at the price of the DLC. A number of people bought the game hoping for a crazy 95% discount, and now they can’t install it — according to the app, it seems that they own the DLC but not the game itself.
The conflicting messages from customer service make it unclear how EA might handle this situation for these customers; we’ve reached out to EA and will update this article when we receive a reply.
