Activision Mobile is a New Studio Making AAA Mobile Games

It looks like the cat’s out of the bag. A new Activision studio is apparently being put together in California — according to a new job listing, Activision Mobile will be dedicated to making “the best AAA mobile games in the world.”
Activision is a long-running game developer and publisher that has grown from making console games into becoming one of the biggest publishing juggernauts in the business, fueled in part by its success with the Call of Duty franchise. It already has a number of in-house developers and subsidiaries under its umbrella including Blizzard Entertainment, a company that’s a giant in its own right. Now, it looks like it’s going to be working in the mobile space even more.
Activision Mobile Aims to Conquer iOS and Android
As Gamasutra reports, a new job listing has been posted to Activision’s careers portal seeking a Systems Designer for mobile games. The listing also happens to reveal the new Activision studio.
“Welcome to Activision Mobile,” read the job listing. “We’re a new in-house studio, dedicated to developing the best AAA mobile games in the world. Our first project is a new AAA mobile title in the Call of Duty franchise and we’re looking for great talent from mobile, console[,] and PC backgrounds passionate about their work, who share our belief in what AAA experiences on mobile can and should be.”
As the description states, the developer’s first project is going to be a new Call of Duty mobile game. This builds on comments from Activision Blizzard’s COO and President Daniel Alegre from earlier this year.
“[…] We really want all of our franchises to be on mobile,” Alegre said as shown in a transcript from an investor call, also reported on by Gamasutra. “And in some cases there might be several different ways in which a franchise can be represented on mobile. You may have re-imagination of an IP or mobile in addition to games that are just more similar to an existing console or a PC experience.”
Unfortunately, that’s about all we know for now. There are any number of ways that a new Call of Duty game could turn out, both good and bad. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about this new venture sooner rather than later.
