A new Metal Gear Solid 3 ladder scene glitch has been discovered, allowing speedrunners to bypass one of the more aggravating parts of the PS2 stealth action game from Kojima Productions.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a prequel to the Metal Gear Solid franchise set during the cold war. While it wasn’t one of the Metal Gear Solid games released on GOG back in 2020, it still has its fair share of fans — speedrunners included. Now, a speedrunner has discovered a glitch that shaves a solid 2 minutes off of a run.
The Metal Gear Solid 3 Ladder Scene Glitch is Pretty Funny
The Metal Gear Solid 3 ladder scene glitch allows you to bypass one of the most iconic scenes in the game and save 2 minutes and change — not an insignificant gain in the world of speedrunning.
The “ladder scene” (seen in the video above) features Snake climbing up a very long ladder at a steady pace while music plays. It takes a little more than two minutes to make it from the bottom to the top. This can now be bypassed entirely (as highlighted on ResetEra), and man does it look funny:
Equipping a certain set of items forces Snake into a T-pose at the bottom fo the ladder. This allows you to rocket up to the top of the tunnel. Snake then does a swan dive through the air and lands on the ground, allowing you to continue on your merry way.
Sadly, it may be some time before we can play Metal Gear Solid 3 on modern platforms (if ever). One hopes that the rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will actually be released sometime this decade.
