Sundial Destiny 2

Destiny 2: Season of Dawn‘s Sundial activity, in my opinion, just wasn’t up to snuff. It didn’t wow you as much as the Menagerie, but, at the very least, it wasn’t as disappointing as last season’s Vex Offensive. Still, if you’re looking for a challenge (or some triumph completions), you can’t go wrong with trying out the Legend Sundial. The Legend Sundial, a tougher version of the Season of Dawn‘s team-based PvE activity, is available today. You can even get pinnacle rewards. Here’s our mini-guide on what you can expect.

Normal vs. Legend Sundial

Legend Sundial, simply put, has a lot more modifiers and is more difficult owing to these changes. Here are the modifiers this week:

Scorched Earth – enemies throw grenades more often
Locked Equipment
Match Game
Champions: Unstoppable
Champions: Barrier
Ozletc’s Clepsydra – Arc and knockback damage increased.
Extinguish

Most importantly, Legend Sundial has no matchmaking. You’ll need to start or join a fireteam if you want other Destiny 2 Guardians to help you. Given that you’ve got your equipment locked down, Match Game, and Extinguish, it’s best to play it safe. That, and having skilled and coordinated players should definitely help.

Ideal classes, loadouts, and encounter tips

Class picks:
Hunters should, naturally, go with Tether and Orpheus Rigs. If you’ve got numerous Hunters, then some could opt for Golden Gun plus Celestial Nighthawk.
Warlocks are a must given the Well of Radiance with Lunafaction Boots. Extra Warlocks could switch to Nova Bomb or Chaos Reach, but Well of Radiance still remains a priority if your team’s chaining supers and you want to limit deaths.
If you have only one Titan in the group, then having Ward of Dawn and Helm of Saint-14 can be beneficial. If you have several Titans, then one could go with Melting Point/hammers and Peregrine Greaves to kill champions in a single hit.
Loadouts:

Loadouts are locked for the Legend Sundial but, as a rule of thumb, you can’t go wrong with having Solar and Void weapons. Arc enemies are quite rare, too, though you’ll want at least a couple of teammates to have these types of weapons to be on the safe side.

Primary – Izanagi’s Burden, period.
Energy – Ideally, it’s your Outlast Solar pulse rifle (anti-barrier or unstoppable rounds).
Heavy – Preferably a Void weapon such as a Swarm of the Raven or Hammerhead.
At least one of your teammates could run with the Divinity trace rifle to debuff bosses, though it’s not mandatory since bosses die quickly anyway.
Encounters:
The Bombardment encounter is probably the easiest that your team can complete. Kill the boss three times and you should have 75% of your progress bar completed already. The Centurions have Solar shields so just break them with your Solar weaponry.
Gatecrash has Void-shielded enemies (Minotaurs) which you need to take out to pick up those orbs. Likewise, there are Incendiors (Void) here as well. Vex Harpies (Arc) also flutter around, but they’re just a minor nuisance.
Datamine is one of the tougher ones since subsequent rounds will require your team to split up. There are Incendiors (Void) and Colossi (Arc) here.

As has been the case in previous weeks, the main bosses are also pushovers. Even if you’re doing the Legend Sundial, bosses won’t be that challenging. Just make sure that you’re playing more defensively and not taking too many risks since Extinguish is a modifier.

Legend Sundial rewards

First off, a Sundial completion will net you the first quest step to obtain the Devil’s Ruin exotic sidearm. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Legend Sundial run or a normal one. Just check the terminal after your first completion and the quest should be there.

Also, the Legend Sundial does give you pinnacle rewards. In fact, it’s the only new source of pinnacle rewards in Destiny 2‘s Season of Dawn. All existing sources are from activities that were introduced during the Season of the Undying. Make sure that you’ve linked the correct Obelisk for the reward you wish to obtain. For instance, if you’re waiting for that 970 PL heavy weapon, then you might want to link the Mars Obelisk so that the Line in the Sand linear fusion rifle pops up in the terminal.
