Heading Into the Early Modern Era

Amplitude Studios has revealed new details about the next Humankind update alongside a progress report on the development of the Humankind modding tools for the 4X game on PC and Google Stadia.

Humankind is a new 4X game that promises to finally give Sid Meier’s Civilization some competition. First announced two years ago, this strategy game launched on Steam a little over a week ago (albeit without Mac support just yet). The devs have an update for fans, detailing what’s coming in the game’s next patch and when we can expect to get our hands on modding tools.

What’s Coming in the Next Humankind Update?

As one might expect, the next Humankind update focuses on bug fixes and balancing to address “various problems” such as an Xbox Game Pass multiplayer bug and improving AI behavior.

The next Humankind update is available to test in a beta branch right now if you don’t want to wait. If you prefer to stay on the live version, you probably won’t have to wait too long before you get to enjoy these fixes.

After that first patch is deployed, Amplitude Studios will continue to focus on bug fixes to a degree. However, it will also include multiplayer improvements and a balance pass on several aspects of the game. You can read about all of the stuff coming in today’s Steam Community news post.

‘We’re Still Working’ on Humankind Modding Tools, Amplitude Says

Aside from the next Humankind update, Amplitude Studios is also working on modding tools for the game. It still plans to deliver these to players, but it looks like the development of these tools is taking a little longer than expected.

“We’re still working on the modding tools and the Day 1 mod, though we are focusing on the modding tools first to put a first version of these tools into your hands as soon as possible to empower you to create your own mods,” read today’s news post. “This initial release will have more limited capabilities than what we would like to achieve, but we hope to be able to deliver this together with one of the upcoming patches.”

These are just some of the changes and fixes coming in the near future; there’s plenty more in the works for the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, the live version of the game is still pretty darn good — you can buy Humankind for PC, Mac, Linux, and Google Stadia via its official website starting at $49.99 or your regional equivalent.
