Warhammer Reveals A New RPG In Rogue Trader
Warhammer is a company with games covering all sorts of formats, and they’re looking to claim another one. Right off the heels of the 2022 Warhammer Skulls Showcase, the developers over at Owlcat are announcing a new game called Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. Though this universe is no stranger to role-playing, the trailer reveals footage of classic turn-based strategy gameplay. There’s also a hand-drawn element in the animated cutscenes to convey an original story in Warhammer 40,000. The game is available for pre-order on Owlcat’s website and is currently exclusive to PC platforms including Steam and GOG. It provides a thorough FAQ but does not announce a definitive release date.
Classic Mechanics In A Dark Future
The Warhammer games have made a name for themselves in all types of gaming, but Owlcat claims this is the series’ very first computer role-playing game (CRPG). Players will step into the shoes of someone known as the Rogue Trader, an independent operator concerned with establishing a mercantile empire. They’ve succeeded to the point where they’ve earned the favor of the Emperor who has bestowed privileges such as powerful ships and skilled crewmembers. With such resources, you’ll be expected to venture into the darkest parts of the universe in order to further expand your reign.
Though this is the first traditional turn-based RPG that has ever been associated with Warhammer, RPG elements have been a key aspect in many of their games. The Vermintide series requires players to put thought into their character builds, while the Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor is a hack-and-slash with an emphasis on growing stronger through experience. The base tabletop Warhammer games are also complex in their RPG elements with each unit having a full table of stats to memorize as well as lore to give context to their battles. With Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, players will get to experience something similar to Fire Emblem and Shining Force series.
As of yet, it’s still unknown when players will be able to try it out for themselves. Until then, they can preorder Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and find out more information on Owlcat’s website.
