E3 2023 Announced
It’s June 2022, and for the second time in three years, there’s no physical E3 conference and this year there’s no E3 at all! It seems like the end of the era, but it looks like what once was the biggest game conference of the year isn’t going quietly into the night. This is due to E3’s parent company, Entertainment Software Association, announcing that there will indeed be an E3 2023.
“We’re excited about coming back in 2023 with both a digital and an in-person event,” ESA president and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis told The Washington Post in an interview. “As much as we love these digital events, and as much as they reach people and we want that global reach, we also know that there’s a really strong desire for people to convene — to be able to connect in person and see each other and talk about what makes games great.”
Players have been growing used to online and digital-only events from Sony, Xbox, Nintendo, and smaller companies awkwardly wading in and around the three titans of the gaming industry. That might not completely change come next year, but at least we’ll be getting a more centralized conference in the form of E3 2023. Will it be a return to form that we’ve been hoping from E3 for the last decade or so? We’ll find out around this time next year.
“I think what’s great about all this experimentation is that companies of all sizes are trying to figure out what works best to promote the product and the content that they are looking to share with consumers,” Pierre-Louis said. “And I think there is a space for a physical show; I think there’s an importance of having digital reach. Combining those two, I think there is a critical element of what we think E3 can provide.”
There’s no official date set for E3 2023 just yet, but when we do we’ll definitely let you know. For more information on E3, gaming conferences, and everything in between.
