Sonic Colors Remake and Cartoon Arriving This Year

One of the biggest wishes of Sonic the Hedgehog fans has been answered: a Sonic Colors remake is in development! Titled Sonic Colors Ultimate, this lovely revival will launch later this year — but Sonic: Rise of the Wisps will debut first.

Sonic Colors Ultimate is a remake of the 2010 Wii and Nintendo DS game Sonic Colors. Although both of those platforms were certainly popular in their heydey, the nature of Nintendo’s gaming machines means that it’s pretty hard to play this game without access to a Wii or Nintendo DS console. Now, it’s finally making its way to modern systems according to today’s massive Sonic Central livestream — and yes, there’s a Digital Deluxe Edition.

The Digital Deluxe Edition of the Sonic Colors remake has some neat goodies for players including exclusive music and player icons, a Sonic movie boost, gold and silver wearables, and early access to the game.

When is the Sonic Colors Ultimate Release Date?

The Sonic Colors Ultimate release date is September 7, 2021. You’ll be able to get this game for PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. No price has been announced, but pre-orders should be opening up on all platforms pretty soon on (The website has been absolutely slammed thanks to this exciting announcement, so you might have to wait a while to check it out.)

Getting to play this game again in a few months is pretty great, but something almost as cool is arriving in just a few short months — a brand-new Sonic Colors cartoon!

It’s Not Just a Sonic Colors Remake — Get Ready for Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps

Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps will complement the launch of the Sonic Colors remake later this year. Featuring the voice cast of the Sonic the Hedgehog games, this new series of short animations will get players hyped up for the hotly-anticipated remake arriving later this year.
